Bengaluru-based online baby journal creating app BabyOnBoard has been selected for Facebook’s developer-focused programme “FbStart” which caters to the early-stage, mobile-focused startups.
As part of the programme, the startup will be provided with services & credits worth $40,000. The services include mentorship from Facebook’s engineering teams and services from its partners like Amazon Web Services, Dropbox, Adobe, and MailChimp.
Launched in October 2016 by IIMB alumni Dr. Rakesh Shivran and Aditya Kulkarni, BabyOnBoard is a baby memories & milestones platform for parents & families. It helps parents create an online baby-journal to preserve the unforgettable moments of the their baby while she grows up, and share securely with their closest family and friends.
It also allows parents to track several milestones at different growth stages as well as health of their baby along with personalised tips on content, products and services highly relevant to their own baby through a machine-learning enabled recommendation engine.
Arguing the need for private social networks, Dr. Rakesh said, “Parents click so many photos of their babies – but most of these pictures go into a hard drive or dropbox and are hidden in the messy clutter of folders. Imagine this: you click pic of your baby’s first smile but after 1 year, you have 1000s of photos of your baby and that most special ‘first’ moment is somewhere hidden or lost. How do you relive that special moment? What family members commented about those special pictures gets lost in random WhatsApp chit-chat after a while. With BabyOnBoard, parents can preserve, share and easily access with one click their baby’s growth journey and all the special moments.
The founders, as of now, claim to have on-board 15000+ parents, using organic growth channels and word-of-mouth from early users. Also, there are plans to launch mobile website & iOS version and raise a seed round of funding for further improving the product and gain more traction on the platform.
